In a speech at the 2013 National Retail Federation’s annual BIG Show, Bill Simon , President and CEO of Walmart U.S., announced that the company will do its part to help veterans find jobs when they return home.
Beginning Memorial Day, Walmart will offer a job to any honorably discharged veteran within 12 months after active duty.
Simon looks to veterans as capable individuals who will be an asset to the company.
“Let’s be clear: hiring a veteran can be one of the best decisions any of us can make,” said Simon. “Veterans have a record of performance under pressure. They’re quick learners, and they’re team players.
The company expects to hire more than 100,000 veterans in the next five years.
“Sadly, too many of those who fought for us abroad now find themselves fighting for jobs at home. Through their service, veterans give us a land of freedom. When they return, it must be to a land of possibility,” said Simon.
