OVIEDO, FL - Low volumes and strong demand are creating a tight market in the sweet corn category as recent weather events have led to a significantly lower supply. According to reports from Florida corn producers, the market has been impacted by a significant freeze event in February. Unprecedented weather conditions brought three consecutive days of freezing temperatures to the region, with lows reaching 26°F.
These conditions have substantially reduced the available supply, making sweet corn relatively scarce in the market.
As a result, pricing has escalated sharply compared to typical seasonal norms. The National FOB Review reported the following pricing information on April 6, noting that demand is currently exceeding supply:
- BI-COLOR wirebound crates - 65.95 Occasional low as 60.95
- YELLOW wirebound crates - 65.95 Occasional low as 60.95
- WHITE wirebound crates - Supplies in too few hands to establish a market
With Duda Farm Fresh Foods currently producing sweet corn in Belle Glade, Florida, as well as young corn in Iron City, Georgia, I connected with Nichole Towell, Senior Director of Marketing and Innovation, to discuss how the grower is supporting its partners during this low-supply period.
“Duda is leveraging its network and sourcing capabilities to secure product from alternative growing regions wherever possible, helping to minimize disruptions for its customers,” Nichole shared.
ANUK will continue to monitor the market and report the latest updates.
