Rochester, NY

The chefs at Wegmans are cooking up a few quick and easy ideas for consumers, this month with three new fresh-ingredient sauces and a fast-cooking technique for vegetables. The culinary tips and creations are part of Wegmans' efforts to encourage healthier food choices, according to a press release. The cooking technique, called “pan-simmering,” requires stir-frying and a quick braise of vegetables with a flash of added flavor near the end of the process and takes around fifteen minutes. To add that kick, the Spicy Thai Red Curry Simmer Sauce, Spicy Indian Simmer Sauce, and Vegetable Simmer Sauce can be found in the produce department.

Russell Ferguson, Wegmans’ Executive Chef for Culinary Development, states, “Today’s families are looking for ways to get a tasty, healthy meal on the table quickly – especially on busy weeknights.” Mr. Ferguson, continues, “Pan-simmering fits the need for speed perfectly. One bag of cleaned-and-cut fresh vegetables, one bottle of simmer sauce, one pot. With cleaned-and-cut vegetables, we’ve done the prep and pan-simmering is a fast-cooking method so it’s ready very quickly.”

For possible vegetable combinations and recipes, consumers can visit wegmans.com where they can find video assistance by the man himself.
