Idaho-based WinCo Foods is slated to enter the Texas market when it opens two new locations in the next year and a half, according to the Dallas Business Journal.

“We have a number of sites we’ve identified and are working toward closure,” Spokesman Michael Read said about North Texas. “It’s too early to tell what the ultimate number might be, but we’re looking at several.”

The grocer is in the process of planning the recruitment process and will transfer a small management team from existing locations.

The two new stores will range from 92,000 to 97,000 square-feet and will house the environment of a traditional supermarket on a much larger scale. The new stores are estimated to provide roughly 400 jobs.

The stores will also have a bag-your-own-groceries checkout process, a novel concept in the area.

“It’s part of the way we keep prices down,” Read said.

“Right now we’re just excited,” he said. “We’re growing at a steady rate.”
