Costco recently reported a double digit jump in their quarterly profits. The 16% increase for the second largest U.S. club store is being attributed directly to stronger than anticipated sales of fresh produce. Costco Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti reported that fresh food sales were up by 5% during the company's fourth quarter fiscal review. Strong produce sales have boosted Costco's overall sales for the last 18 months, as the club store has expanded its retail food shares. Costco is expected to add more stores this next year, which may push the company above Sam's Club as the number one club store in terms of locations.
