Supply may be on the lighter side, but it’s not all bad news for avocado growers. Bruce Dowhan, GM for Giumarra Agricom International, mentioned the excellent quality of the crop, with avocados displaying high oil levels and flavor profiles. Mr. Bowhan discussed the scarcity of current supplies and how they've driven market prices higher than anything in recent memory. Rob Wedin, VP of Sales & Marketing at Calavo Growers, echoed the short supply status, stating that while supplies have been short all year, the quality of the avocados is excellent. Jim Donovan, VP of Business Development, stated Chile's freeze a few weeks ago had no dire effects on the South American avocado harvest. No other major weather issues are anticipated, but supply will be light in August before increasing throughout September and the fall.
