Will growers be singing the blues this season? Here's a report on blueberries on this week's bloom.

Tom Richardson - Director of Operations - Giumarra Companies

Were currently harvesting in Florida, and southern Georgia as well. The weather has been pretty good, really the spring and late part of winter have been quite good in Florida. We should be hitting the peak of volumes over the next two, two and a half weeks. Currently, supply's good. The week after Easter, typically demand is down a little bit. The market has been good, I think demand for new domestic products has been pretty good. So go out and support our local blueberry growers!

Matt Curry - President - Curry and Co.

Currently harvesting in Santa Maria, California. Ripening cycles and harvest has been slower than normal, with small quantities of fruit getting harvested at present. Peak season in California is mid May into early June. Supply will be good. Things are a little bit later than normal due to the cooler temperatures, but yield should be good. The market is tight right now, because Chile is almost at the end of their season here, coming into the United States. April will be a tight month, and May will be, basically when all the volume head out of California. We have a definitely a crop that can be promoted, they should be confident in running ads in May for California Blueberries.

Brian Bocock - VP of Product Management - Naturipe Farms

We're harvesting blueberries in Florida and Georgia, and a little bit from California and a little bit from Mexico. We had a significant freeze in Florida and Georgia during March. The whole crop was effected by as much as 50% We've had cooler weather in California, which delayed the harvest. Florida and Georgia has 2 peaks- in the very end of April, and the first 10 days of May. And then the very end of May, and the month of June. In California, the peak runs really from the second week of May, until the third week of June. Supply has been tight, because of the cold weather: Demand exceeds available supply. Market is very strong, stronger than last year and I expect it to stay strong until at least June. Eat more blueberries! They're a great item, they're good for you, Healthy, High in antioxidants, give a good lift for blueberry when you promote 'em and put them on the end-caps.

Next week on The Bloom we'll have a report on Texas Produce, thank you for watching!
