Oxnard, CA - This month, Gills Onions has been awarded the SQF 2000 Level 3 accreditation for Comprehensive Food Safety and Quality Management Systems. The SQF certification program is administered by the SQF Institute, a facet of the Food Marketing Institute and is a three tier certification program for food manufacturers. It recognizes companies who put into practice HACCP-based management systems and best practices in order to meet food safety legislation.

Gills Onions obtained SQF 2000 Level 2 accreditation in December 2010, and took its commitment a step further by implementing a Food Quality Plan to obtain SQF 2000 Level 3 accreditation in December 2011. Level 3 certification requires the development of a Food Quality Plan that determines how the quality will be maintained, standard operating practices, and work instructions that meet level 3 certification standards. The plan also contains process controls to examine deviations from normal operations. Feedback from a food quality risk analysis is also included with actions that can be taken in the face of food quality threats.

“Gills Onions takes very seriously our customers’ faith in the safety and quality of our products,” said Nelia Alamo, Director of Sales & Marketing. “We understand the reality that other fresh onion choices are available in the marketplace, and we must continue to exceed our customers’ expectations to prove that Gills Onions is the right choice for them.
