Rick Dyer, National Accounts Manager for Christopher Ranch, states, “Both our chef and processing customers report that the Monviso variety is two to three times more flavorful than Chinese garlic, negating any perceived price difference.”

Mr. Dyer reports that sales have been stable throughout the year, and peeled garlic sales have not experienced the drop off that usually occurs when Chinese garlic enters the market. Dyer states, “Christopher Ranch leads with strength, giving operators flavor and quality as points of differentiation, as well as a connection to our growers and Christopher Ranch heritage.”

Christopher Ranch is planning to increase its production by 10 percent every year in an effort to meet growing demand. The company predicts that the quality and size of this year’s Monviso California Heirloom Garlic crop will be top-notch, with harvest beginning in late July.

Christopher Ranch
