U.S Commerce reviewing tomato pact proposal

<p><strong>Nogales, AZ</strong><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Mexican tomato growers have recently presented a proposal to the U.S. Commerce Department in hopes of settling an agreement on exports to the country.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Lance Jungmeyer, President of Fresh Produce Association of the Americas, tells AndNowUKnow, the proposal states an 18-25 percent increase to the floor price, depending on the type of tomato.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">“If Commerce accepts this, then we shouldn’t see a disruption in trade,” says Jungmeyer.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The proposal is currently under review by the U.S. Commerce Department, however November 1st will be the last day either side can present a case brief. Both parties will have an opportunity to rebut the case studies during the 10-day commenting period, ending on the 11th of November.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Jungmeyer also tells AndNowUKnow, consumers will not be affected by what they pay for at the grocery store and could potentially see a final agreement as early as November 12th if all decisions are made official.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">“Its in their hands, we can try to do some influence but they are under a lot of critical pressure. “<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><a class="btn btn-sm btn-primary col-lg-12" style="white-space: normal;" href="http://www.freshfrommexico.com" target="_new"> Fresh Produce of the Americas </a></p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">
