Kroger, a Cincinnati based supermarket operator, has opened a new store in Amelia, Ohio that’s supersizing its usual store model. This 133,000 square foot marketplace is one of two new mega stores this month.
These two new stores tie for the second-largest store in the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky-Dayton region and are among the largest Krogers in the country. The Kroger Marketplace store in Centerville, at 147,000 square feet, is the nation’s largest Kroger store.
“The bigger the store, the more variety we can offer the customer,” said Amelia store manager Bob Boland.
The new Amelia store offers everything from fresh sushi to a bistro section that sells a selection of prepared meals to go. There’s an indoor Starbucks and a beer and wine section with a staging area for future tasting events. It's even complete with a drive-thru pharmacy and a Little Clinic medical care center as well as a Fred Meyer Jewelers.
Sharen Ernst, a 67-year-old retired school treasurer is more than pleased with the new variety the Amelia store offers. “This is a fantastic store, the variety is incredible,” she said. “Now, when you go to the grocery store, you also go to the hardware and other stores, it's like Main Street.”
This new and unique, food-focused super center is just one in a trend of larger stores that are opening nationwide.
