Kroger is wrapping up a multimillion-dollar remodeling project on the company's store at 7045 Old Canton Road in Ridgeland, Mississippi. As part of Kroger's project, the company will also close its 2000 E. County Line Road store in Ridgeland on Nov. 5, as two closely located grocery stores could neutralize each other’s business, according to the Clarion Ledger. The publication attributed the information to Kroger officials and Company spokesman Joe Bell. All 100 of the County Line Road's employees will be transferred to other metro-area stores it operates.

The company is spending about $5 million, which Bell says is a large amount for a single store, on remodeling the Old Canton Road location. The new store is larger and features more parking than the County Line Road location, Bell notes. Keeping each open would have resulted in each store drawing customers away from the other, especially with “the same offerings, the same specials, the same ads," he reflects.

“At some point, we knew we were going to remodel the (Old Canton Road) store,” Bell said. “When we decided to make that kind of investment."The company is spending about $5 million, which Bell says is a large amount for a single store, on remodeling the Old Canton Road location.

Kroger has had a great 2013, announcing last month it was buying 212 grocery stores operated by Harris Teeter.

The investment includes new lighting and decor on the inside of the store, as well as enhanced produce, natural/organic foods and deli offerings. The Old Canton Road store, Bell says, is “right at a busy crossroads” that essentially connects the Madison/Ridgeland, Ross Barnett Reservoir and Jackson areas. Kroger's fuel station on County Line Road will stay open and pharmacy files will be transferred to the Old Canton Road location. Customers can request transfers to other Kroger stores.

Kroger
