Rainier is helping retailers lift their sales during the second half of the apple shipping season with the company’s Lady Alice® apples. The fruit’s distinct pink stripe and a banana yellow background gives it a visual uniqueness that sets it apart from other apple varieties. Lady Alice is one of the hottest new apples in the marketplace and production has increased since its introduction just a few years ago as its appeal has taken off.
Suzanne Wolter, Director of Marketing, tells AndNowUKnow, “Lady Alice is a significant contributor to the “other” category during the second half of the season. The apple is an excellent, all-purpose apple perfectly suited for eating fresh, cutting into salads or fruit trays, and a nice addition to prepared dishes. This apple appeals to the increasing American Foodie culture.”
According to AC Nielsen numbers, the “other” category showed continued growth with a 17% dollar increase and 20% volume since September 1st of the 2013 apple season. Nielsen data reports showed apples with volume increases concurrently as the highest inflation item in the produce department during the 2012 crop season, proving consumers are willing to pay for great tasting, high quality products.
With the apple's heirloom crispness, dense skin, and perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors; the fruit creates the perfect snack, salad or fruit tray accompaniment.
The Lady Alice also fits Nielsen’s top trends to watch in 2014:
• Consumers want Fresher, Faster, Better
• Wellness Required - Health remains a top trend
• Flavor - Consumer willingness to pay a premium for niche items & top quality products.
Rainier supports each retailer's market introduction with multiple POS options, social media, demos and other customized promotional efforts.
