Ocean Mist Farms Now Shipping Baby Broccoli

Mon. April 21st, 2014 - by Sarah Hoxie

This spring, Ocean Mist Farms is adding a new vegetable to its lineup of more than 30 fresh vegetables that the company grows and sells, according to a press release.

Baby broccoli is being offered as a year-round program and will start shipping this week, according to a press release. The unique commodity comes in an 18-count pack, iced or iceless.

Baby broccoli is actually a cross between broccoli and Chinese kale, and has a sweeter flavor than ordinary broccoli. It features long, thin stalks and small floret clusters that often contain edible yellow flowers.

"This is a logical addition to our product line," said Joe Feldman, Vice President Sales and Marketing. "Ocean Mist Farms added baby broccoli to its product line in order to meet growing consumer demand for the vegetable."

The Ocean Mist hang tag features "quick cook" recipes to educate consumers about how easy and versatile it is.

The baby broccoli category has grown by 12.7% in dollar sales and 12.6% in volume sales year-over-year, with dollar sales topping $9.5 million, according to data from Nielsen Perishables.

I'm looking forward to seeing this new item in stores!
