WOLCOTT, NY - Fowler Farms and SweeTango® Apples are joining the fight against the coronavirus pandemic by donating over 100,000 fresh apples to areas of need in the Northeast.
“As farmers we are proud to be an essential part of the global economy. What better way to give back than to provide one of healthiest foods available to people who need it most,” said Austin Fowler, sixth-generation family member and Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
Of course, apples have their own disease fighting capabilities. In fact, apples contain quercetin which in addition to being a well-known antioxidant, is now being studied for its potential to disrupt viruses.
Fowler Farms is sending fresh bagged apples to Foodlink in Rochester, New York, and has partnered with Applewood Fresh Growers and Feeding America to help with distribution in Michigan.
"Fowler Farms and Foodlink have had a strong partnership for several years, and we're so grateful that it has stepped up to donate fresh produce during these challenging times," said Terra Keller, Chief Operating Officer at Foodlink. "We're thrilled to pair bags of apples with Foodlink's emergency food supply boxes to help nourish thousands of individuals and families who have been hard hit by this public health crisis."
