GREENSBORO, NC - March is widely known as Women’s History Month, and retailers are making concentrated efforts to support our industry’s women-owned businesses. The Fresh Market is one such company, highlighting the more than 100 products from women-owned companies throughout its stores with signage, as well as on social media.
“We are committed to offering the best of specialty foods at The Fresh Market, and it is really exciting to see the growth of products that are developed, launched, and run by women,” says Maren Trocki, Director of Dairy and Frozen Merchandising at The Fresh Market. “All of these products were created out of their personal passions and missions, and it shows in meeting a unique need like clean ingredients or gluten-free, as well as delivering on taste.”
This is the second year The Fresh Market is highlighting women suppliers, according to a press release. van Hoekelen Greenhouses, which was founded by Lori van Hoekelen in 1988, is one example of a brand carried by The Fresh Market that was created and is led by women. A greenhouse bulb grower on the East Coast, the company is a member of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).
The Fresh Market will be highlighting several other women-owned brands across all departments of the grocery store, promoting equality across the food industry as a whole. All women will be celebrated on International Women’s Day, March 8, the retailer noted, with free cupcakes.
