SALINAS, CA - We’ve been keeping an eye on the Iceberg market, especially in light of high temperatures and rain in California. According to last week’s report from The Source, light supplies are expected as yields continue to suffer with all suppliers.

I reached out to John Amaral, Sales Manager for The Nunes Company, who gave me his perspective.

John Amaral, Sales Manager, The Nunes Company“The Nunes Company expects its Salinas Iceberg lettuce crop to be finishing sometime the week of October 17. Expectations are that, with a short-supplied industry combined with good demand from the buying community, market levels will remain strong for the foreseeable future,” he noted.

The company will be transitioning its Foxy® Iceberg program to the Huron growing region the week of October 17.

The Source went on to note that demand continues to exceed supplies. High temperatures, rain, INSV, and fusarium in the soil are all contributing variables that are hurting production, although the quality reported is fair.

We’ll continue to keep our eyes on the market, so stay tuned to us here at AndNowUKnow.
