GUADALUPE, CA - If you’re reading this, that means you’re already starting your day off right with a little bit of fresh produce news. Today’s headlines bring us an announcement from Beachside Produce, which has revealed that Oceano, California-based Pismo Oceano Vegetable Exchange Growers (POVEG) has purchased an ownership position in the company.
“We are very excited to welcome the POVEG farming families,” said John Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of Beachside. “This business combination expands Beachside’s commodity lineup. We can now offer a greater breadth of offerings, which we believe will allow us to better compete for new business, and serve the combined, existing customer bases.”
According to a press release, the two companies concluded several months of negotiations last week, which will culminate in merging the two sales forces into one larger Beachside sales team that will sell all commodities of the combined entity beginning June 4, 2023.
“As customers in the retail and foodservice arena continue to decrease, we all agreed that providing an expanded product line, and providing economies of scale on the production and post-harvest inputs of our businesses provides our growers the best opportunity for long-term growth of our farming operations,” explained Kurtis Kobara, President of POVEG.
Jackson also went on to explain that, as part of the combination, the Oceano and Pismo Brands will be added to Beachside’s existing branded offerings.
“We wanted to honor and continue to recognize the long history that the grower group brings to the table by continuing to have their label in the marketplace in the commodity categories where their farming families have dominated over the past century,” said Jackson.
Stay tuned as we continue to report on the growth of burgeoning produce brands like this one.
