ELLENSBURG, WA - A 1-million-square-foot expansion is in the works as WinCo Foods rolls out its newest distribution center blueprint. The Idaho-based, employee-owned grocery store is spreading its reach in the state of Washington.

As reported by the Daily Record, the company proposed a 1.1-million-square-foot distribution center in Ellensburg, Washington. WinCo’s newest development would sit on over 100 acres east of Anderson Road, as cited in public records.

The city recently approved a height variance for the project, clearing the way for the grocer to proceed with a boundary line adjustment application and then apply for the building permit. The source noted City Planning Manager Jeremy Johnston stated that there is no timeline for completing the facility.

As Puget Sound Business Journal reported, plans for the Ellensburg center indicate an expansion in the state by WinCo, which is already gaining traction in the Puget Sound region with its 24th location in Washington. Additionally, the source noted the search for a Washington state distribution center site has been ongoing for around three years.
