NEWARK, DE - South by Southwest (SXSW) is valued as the focal point for culture, branding, technology, entertainment, and food. The 10-day experience will include networking opportunities, engaging activities, entertainment, and educational sessions; the Produce Marketing Association wants in on that. PMA announced that it is bidding to join the education lineup at the next SXSW for the second year in a row and is seeking support from the industry.

Lauren M. Scott, Chief Marketing Officer, PMA“SXSW is one of the best places to learn what global cultural influencers and business leaders are thinking and saying,” says PMA Chief Marketing Officer, Lauren M. Scott. “They are there talking about us, and so it is important to break into those conversations and share what we as an industry give to the world. I’m excited that we have a chance to come back and tell more true stories about where our food comes from.”

PMA announced that it is bidding to join the education lineup at the next South by Southwest (SXSW) for the second year in a row

Over the past two years, PMA has been present at SXSW, with its first official education session taking place last year. The press release states that the session PMA wants to present, The Farmers Behind Your Fresh Food, is a discussion that will feature Casey Cox, Vice President at Longleaf Fridge Farms; Henry Gordon-Smith, Founder and Managing Director at Agritecture Consulting; Brian Talley, Owner and Winegrower at Talley Vineyards; and PMA Vice President of Technology, Vonnie Estes, as the moderator.

Vonnie Estes, Vice President of Technology, Produce Marketing Association“The audience at SXSW is unique to any other event throughout the year,” stated Estes. “It’s one of the only places where thought leaders in all aspects of technology, food, health, culture, and event entertainment are all mingling with our consumers. The conversations that happen here can change the way our industry is seen, and that’s what we hope to do with our session: start a conversation between farmers and consumers. We want our consumers to learn about the innovative, healthy, and sustainable ways we’re feeding the world.”

According to the session video, Estes and the panelists know that consumers want to know more about their food than ever before, including how their food is grown, where its grown, and who is growing it. The session will give the farmers a chance to share that not only do they want the same thing as consumers, but they will also share the ways the industry is using technology and ingenuity to grow healthy and delicious food in a safe and sustainable way.

If you’re keen on attending this particular session, vote here to ensure PMA secures a spot for SXSW 2020 by this Friday, August 23. Keep reading AndNowUKnow for more news.

KINGSVILLE, ON - There is a lot going on in terms of growth for Mucci Farms, not the least of which is that the company just acquired controlling interest of fellow Ontario-based greenhouse operator Orangeline Farms.

Bert Mucci, CEO, Mucci Farms“It’s an exciting time for the company as we continue our aggressive expansion plans to increase our local and regional production,” Bert Mucci, CEO of Mucci Farms, said. “The Orangeline acquisition comes with a 32-acre greenhouse and a warehouse with additional land totalling 100 acres. Consumers are demanding more local production, and we’re listening. We also have plans in place to build on the additional land that was received as part of the agreement.”

Mucci Farms continues its aggressive expansion by acquiring controlling interesting in Orangeline Farms

Orangeline was founded by the Kniaziew family in 2000. The brand is an award-winning grower well known for its unique pepper offerings grown under the Zing!™ Healthy Foods brand, according to a press release.

Duffy Kniaziew, Founder, Orangeline Farms“In searching for growth opportunities for both Orangeline’s staff and our ever loyal customers, the chance to partner with a world class organization like Mucci Farms was an easy decision to make,” said Orangeline Founder Duffy Kniaziew.

Mucci Farms is known to have an eye for branding excellence, with plenty of awards of its own to show for it, and the company said in a press release that it will continue to use the Zing! brand for the foreseeable future as it has quietly established itself among retailers and consumers.

Emily Murracas, Director of Marketing, Mucci Farms“Duffy and his team have done a great job with the brand and it’s familiar in our region, so we’re not looking to make any dramatic changes at the moment,” said Emily Murracas, Mucci’s Director of Marketing.

In addition to Orangeline’s existing greenhouse and warehouse facilities, the company also announced expansion plans in Canada and the United States.

Mucci purchased a spread of acreage adjacent to its 60-acre project, boosting it now to 75 acres, in Huron, Ohio.

“The first 24-acre phase is in its second season of harvesting, and we’ll be building two more identical ranges. Phase two construction is already underway,” remarked Bert Mucci. “The Ohio program has gotten off to a great start and we’re looking forward to growing our presence in the community and the regional market.”

An exciting time seems almost an understatement for all the Mucci team seems to have in the works. A vertically-integrated fruit and vegetable grower that owns and operates 250 acres of tomato, pepper, cucumber, lettuce, and strawberry greenhouses in Canada and the United States, with a partner-grower network of 1,500 acres across North America, it looks as though the company is poised to close out 2019 with a bang.
