GENEVA & SCOTTSDALE - Fyffes, the global pineapple and banana producer, is adding a spooky, tropical twist to Halloween by inviting consumers to carve lanterns out of pineapples instead of pumpkins.

The Halloween lantern tradition began in Ireland, where turnips were originally used. When Irish immigrants brought the custom to America, pumpkins became the carving favorite. Now Fyffes is reviving the idea with a tropical twist. Working with retailers across Europe, Fyffes is encouraging shoppers to buy, carve, and enjoy pineapples this Halloween.

Frank Burkhardt, Chief Commercial Officer, Fyffes

“This initiative brings multiple benefits,” says Frank Burkhardt, Chief Commercial Officer at Fyffes, in the recent release. “It aligns with our sustainability goals by reducing food waste, giving our sweet, juicy pineapples with bent crowns or scorched leaves a second life. It also boosts sales and engagement during a slower season, while encouraging families to enjoy pineapples as a fun, healthier Halloween option that can be enjoyed immediately.”

Retail partners include Morrisons and Iceland in the UK, Netto Marken-Discount in Germany, and Dunnes Stores and SuperValu in Ireland. Along with scary pineapple labels and packaging, Morrisons in the UK are also offering in-store tastings and selling pineapple corers to make carving even easier.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - When I think of the people who have made a lasting impact on this industry, certain qualities always rise to the surface: influence, grace, strength, humility, and connection. For more than 40 years, Scott Bradley has embodied each of these traits, shaping not only his career in fresh produce but also the people fortunate enough to work alongside him.

Scott Bradley, Retired Vice President of Perishables, Target

After an incredible tenure in fresh produce, Scott is turning the page to his next chapter with his recent retirement from Target. It’s a well-earned moment for reflection after decades spent helping shape the direction of retail and the fresh departments that make it thrive.

Scott began his career at Safeway, where he immersed himself in nearly every facet of retail operations—from procurement to merchandising. His time there built not just his technical knowledge of distribution centers and supply chains, but also his reputation for practical wisdom and steady leadership. Those same qualities served him well when he joined Target in 2015 as Vice President of Perishables, helping to strengthen the retailer’s focus on fresh foods.

Throughout his career, Scott was known for his quiet but unwavering dedication to excellence and collaboration. Whether managing daily operations or mentoring the next generation of retail professionals, he cultivated an environment of respect and shared purpose. His teams describe him as both a steady hand and a generous teacher—someone who balanced high standards with humor and heart.

As Scott steps away from the demands of retail, his friends wish him more time for fly fishing, lots of family time, laughter, and new adventures.

To Scott—thank you for the integrity, care, and connection you’ve brought to every role, every team, and every relationship. Your influence will continue to ripple through this industry and the many lives you’ve touched.
