NEW ROCHELLE, NY - LGS Specialty Sales, a leading importer of citrus, avocados, grapes, and persimmons, shares an update on its mandarin supply ahead of the summer season. The company expects a seamless transition from domestic and Moroccan fruit into the southern hemisphere supply, offering Clemenules and Orograndes varieties over the next month and then transitioning to W. Murcotts and Tango varieties late-June/early-July.
“This year, we are experiencing excellent timing for southern hemisphere fruit,” said Lucio Rainelli, Director of Sales at LGS Specialty Sales, in a recent press release. “Moving directly from Moroccan W. Murcotts to Clementines from the southern hemisphere should alleviate any issues with supply disruption or quality.”
Fruit will be arriving to the U.S. the week of May 12, with a heavier supply anticipated the following week. The earlier timeframe ensures quality fruit will remain on the shelves despite the shift in growing regions.
“We are extremely pleased to offer our customers a smooth transition and give consumers an excellent eating experience with this year’s higher volume, great sizing, and color,” added Rainelli. “Looking forward to a good summer season ahead!”

WASHINGTON - Equitable Food Initiative, the nonprofit capacity-building and workforce development organization that partners with growers, farmworkers and retailers, is excited to announce the launch of an awareness campaign for Farmworker Women’s Health Week, May 11–17, 2025, spotlighting the unique health challenges faced by women in the agricultural workforce and promoting resources that empower them to take charge of their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
The week coincides with National Women’s Health Week and was created by the Association of Farmworker Opportunity Programs. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 26% of farmworkers are women, performing physically demanding labor in fields and packing facilities. Typically, women’s responsibilities extend beyond the workday, to include managing households, childcare, elder caregiving, and community leadership.
EFI is committed to raising awareness of the unique challenges faced by women in agriculture, who frequently encounter barriers to healthcare access, long work hours, language hurdles, lack of transportation, and immigration-related fears. These obstacles can delay preventive care and put women at higher risk for chronic illness, untreated injuries,s and mental health stressors.
“Women in agriculture are not only essential to the food we eat—they are pillars of their families and their communities,” shared LeAnne Ruzzamenti, director of marketing communications at EFI, in a recent press release. “Supporting their health is not just a moral imperative—it’s vital to create a more equitable and sustainable food system.”
Throughout National Farmworker Women’s Health Week, EFI will be highlighting stories and sharing resources at equitablefood.org/whw, including important tools, many in both English and Spanish, to empower women in agriculture to take control of their health. Several highlights from the toolkit include:
“This campaign is about more than just awareness—it’s about action,” Ruzzamenti added. “We are asking agricultural companies to share industry-specific, culturally relevant resources to help women farmworkers advocate for themselves and make informed decisions about their health.”
EFI’s work with farming operations across the Americas, provides structured platforms promoting worker engagement, helping to ensure that women have safer working environments and better access to safety information.
During National Farmworker Women’s Health Week, EFI urges produce industry partners, retailers, and consumers to honor the resilience of female farmworkers and join efforts that promote equitable access to healthcare needs and workplace protections for all.

TORONTO - Flashfood, the app-based marketplace connecting consumers with affordable groceries, announced the appointment of Jordan Schenck as its new Chief Executive Officer. Schenck has served as Flashfood’s President and Chief Operating Officer since October 2024. She assumes the role immediately and succeeds Nicholas Bertram, who will remain on the board.
This transition comes at a pivotal time in Flashfood’s growth trajectory. The company has added over 1,000 doors and experienced 200% revenue growth since completing its Series A in 2022, expanding its footprint to 33 US states and all 10 Canadian provinces. This occurred while achieving B-Corp Certification, launching new products, and replatforming its applications to achieve even greater impact in North America.
“Jordan is a generational talent, and her growth over the last two years has benefited our company tremendously. She is ready to take on this role, and I am thrilled for her to lead our talented teammates as they achieve our mission of feeding families, not landfills,” said Bertram on her appointment in a recent press release.
Bertram recruited Schenck in early 2023 to serve as Flashfood’s Chief Brand Officer and has since promoted her twice, from Chief Customer Officer to President and Chief Operating Officer. In her tenure, Schenck led the company’s transformational rebrand in January 2024, oversaw the relaunch of Flashfood’s consumer app, and was instrumental in the development and launch of Flashfood for Independents – a new platform for independently owned grocers.
"Stepping into the CEO role, I am energized by the extraordinary potential ahead of us. Flashfood’s technology has the power to build a world where food is never wasted and access to affordable, fresh products is a daily occurrence," said Jordan Schenck, CEO of Flashfood. “With a product-driven approach, relentless innovation and the use of AI, we will empower grocers to turn close-dated inventory into a competitive advantage – earning more frequent shoppers and wasting zero food.”
“Flashfood has achieved significant growth in recent years, and Jordan has demonstrated outstanding leadership and vision during a pivotal period for the company," said Chuck Templeton, Flashfood Board Director and Managing Partner at S2G Investments. "Her growth mindset and deep understanding of consumer and retailer dynamics make her exceptionally equipped to lead Flashfood forward and scale its ability to lower food costs and reduce unnecessary waste."
Earlier in her career, Schenck served as co-founder and Chief Revenue Officer of wellness brand Sunwink, which became one of the fastest-growing ready-to-drink beverages in the market. Before Sunwink, Schenck was head of consumer marketing for Impossible Foods and supported the company's explosive growth across new verticals and markets.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Meijer announced its Simply Give hunger relief program has donated an incredible $100 million to help alleviate hunger in the Midwest since the program's inception in 2008. During that time, the Meijer Simply Give program has provided nearly 900 million meals to communities in partnership with hundreds of local food pantries across its six-state footprint.
"For the last 17 years, the Meijer Simply Give program has fueled the missions of food pantries for countless communities across the Midwest, ensuring neighbors in need have access to nourishing food," said Rick Keyes, President & CEO of Meijer, in a recent press release. "Reaching this milestone is more than a number—it's a testament to the critical partnerships between our stores and local food pantries, the generosity of our customers, and the dedication of our team members. It's proof that when we come together with a shared purpose, we can make a profound and lasting impact in the neighborhoods we call home."
To celebrate this achievement and express its gratitude, Meijer will make a special contribution of $1.5 million to the hundreds of Simply Give pantries that continue to serve as essential lifelines for individuals and families facing food insecurity across the Midwest.
The Meijer Simply Give hunger relief program has been able to drive such an impact in part because of customers' shared desire to fight hunger. Customers are invited to continue supporting their communities by adding a $10 Simply Give card to their cart, which is then converted into a Meijer food-only gift card and given to the local food pantry partner associated with that store's community.
"Our food pantry partners are truly the heartbeat of our Simply Give program, and we are thrilled to celebrate this impressive milestone with them," said Melissa Conway, Director of Community Partnerships & Giving at Meijer. "On behalf of Meijer, we'd like to thank all our pantry partners for the tremendous care, commitment, and compassion they demonstrate every day in providing meals and comfort to families in need."
In addition to its year-round customer efforts, the Meijer Simply Give program offers special opportunities for contributions to go further, including the campaign's Double Match Days, the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give, and other gifting initiatives.
