BAKERSFIELD, CA - Southeast Produce Council’s (SEPC) Southern Exposure kicks off more than the produce show season—it marks the coming to life of the Coachella, California, growing region, stretching fresh access from coast to coast.

“We are optimistic for another great season in the Coachella and San Joaquin valleys on the grape front,” Rob Spinelli shared with me about the area’s kickoff in early May. “Approximately 1.5 million boxes are anticipated, with some newer varieties like Ruby Rush, Autumn Crisp, and Sweet Globe coming out of Coachella to keep consumers engaged, as well as Honey Pop coming out of San Joaquin.”
Pointing out that SEPC’s Southern Exposure is a great time for connection after a break from face-to-face opportunities, Rob told me that the show continues to be a mainstay in Anthony Vineyards’ plan for its alignment to the grower’s program.

Often associated with grapes and dates, another exclusive and enticing item Anthony Vineyards is bringing back to market from the Coachella area is organic California Keitt mangos.
“Organic California Keitt mangos are the only variety grown in California,” Rob pointed out. Grown in the Coachella Valley alongside much of Anthony Vineyards’ organic grapes and Medjool dates, the addition makes for a fun twist to its program. “We have grown mangos out of the desert for years now, but this season, we will be marketing the Keitts ourselves—as one of only a couple of companies offering from this region, we know it’s a special offering, particularly for local markets.”
The start of this aspect of Anthony Vineyards’ program also overlaps with organic grapes it is importing from Peru, he concluded.

“Our Peruvian program stretched from the end of December into mid-March, making for a smooth transition from winter to spring for retailers,” Rob concluded.
You can shake hands with the Anthony Vineyards team at booth #431 (if you haven’t met them on the golf course first!) when Southern Exposure opens its show floor Saturday, March 8, in Orlando, Florida.
