California Avocado Commission Names the 2013 Advertising and Retail Display Winners

<p> The California Avocado Commission has announced the winners of its advertising and display contests for 2013. Save Mart Supermarkets earned first place in CAC’s advertising contest, while Food Town store number seven in Houston took home the grand prize for the display contest.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> “Retailer advertising and display support is a vital component in the promotion of California avocados,” said Jan DeLyser, CAC vice president of marketing. “We develop retailer incentive programs to encourage that support and to thank those retailers who are strong supporters of California avocados.”<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><img src="https://cdn.andnowuknow.com/legacyWriterImages/display.jpg" alt="images 120913" /><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> The contest, which ran concurrently from May 1, 2013 through September 11, 2013, encouraged retailers to merchandise and feature California avocados. A total of 162 ads were displayed during the period, with 112 featuring the Hand Grown in California logo, according to a press release.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Retailers throughout California and Phoenix, AZ, such as Sprouts Farmers Market (second place), Lucky Supermarkets, Bashas’ Supermarkets, Cardenas Markets, Jons Marketplace, Safeway, Stater Brothers, and Vallarta Supermarkets all took part in the race to see who could accumulate the most points for running as many California avocado ads as possible during the qualification period. Seventeen retailers were awarded prizes, including an Apple iPad Mini.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> For CAC’s retail display contest, 31 qualified entrants submitted photos with displays featuring California avocado POS material. Displays were judged based on the size of the display, use of ripe California avocados, use of California avocado POS material, and overall creativity. Each qualified entry received a $25 Amazon.com gift card, while 15 stores with the top point totals received a Canon digital camera.
