California Citrus Growers Assessing Damage as Freezing Temperatures Persist

<p>San Joaquin Valley temperatures have been dropping into the low 20s and sources tell us that the cold has caused damage to the crop with percentages still being assessed while weather persist. The recent extreme cold conditions have confirmed the concerns of citrus growers that long durations of freezing temperatures were in store. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Growers will be working hard through the weekend as there still is a lot of weather to face. Even vegetable growers in the region, in addition to citrus growers, are concerned that crops in the ground could see damage down the road, should the temperatures continue to drop. In addition, another cold front is slated to move through the valley on Saturday and into Monday. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Growers began taking measures early in the week to protect the crop with techniques that include pumping water into groves and using wind machines to circulate the warm air rising from the ground.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Hard freeze warnings will remain in effect through this morning as the Arctic air mass remains over the valley.
