Chilean Fresh Fruit Exports Up Despite Strike and Last September’s Freeze

<p> In spite of a freeze last September, the three-week port strike, and reduced export volume for stone fruit and blueberries, Chilean fresh fruit exports actually improved over last season at the same time. Exports through the end of January reached 498,891 tons, a 1.7% increase, according to a press release.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> “This has been an incredibly challenging season for us, but the hard work and dedication of both our exporters and the ports of Valparaiso and Coquimbo, who weren’t involved in the recent strike, have resulted in a strong, ongoing flow of supply to our export markets,” says Ronald Bown, President of the Chilean Fruit Exporter’s Association (ASOEX).
