DALLAS, TX – Looking to start its new year off fresh, in more than one way, Chiquita Brands International has unveiled a new design for its banana boxes. The new packaging will launch across the globe on January 1, 2017.
“Our goal is to continue to provide the highest quality products to people all over the world, which is why we are committed to creating more efficient transportation methods of our fruit,” said Vice President of North America Chris Dugan at Chiquita Brands. “We’re excited to see improvements in the quality of fruit that arrives to our partners, as well as the cost efficiencies that these new boxes will create.”
The new boxes have been redesigned to be more structurally sound paired with a cooling aspect to improve the freshness of its contents. According to a press release, the new boxes also allow for a stable transport on the pallets, and ultimately reduce food waste from additional damages or over-ripened fruit during transport.
Chiquita’s new cooling design will permit its bananas to ripen evenly. The company stated that market tests supported by the company’s ripening facility reported the following benefits when using the boxes, resulting in a potential energy savings of 20 percent:
- More equal ripening temperatures
- Better color uniformity
- Better ABC scores
With fresh imagery, the boxes boast a cleaner look and represent Chiquita’s newest brand messaging and colors. Pushing this new brand across the globe, the new boxes gives shoppers and buyers a consistent look and feel from the well-known brand.
