UNIONTOWN, PA - A couple popped open their trunk willingly to show officers that they weren’t marijuana growers, but home gardeners.
Because, surely, no one could tell the difference between pot plants and some homegrown tomatoes and peppers.
Carl Moore and Lisa Murray, a couple growing the drug in an abandoned house, were arrested last Wednesday after police found more than 50 marijuana plants in the couple’s car.
“They were kinda going with the story they were tomato plants and pepper plants, so they weren't too concerned with letting us look through the vehicle,” Lieutenant Tom Kolencik of the Uniontown Police Department said, according to WXPI News.
When the officers discovered all 56 plants, the couple insisted they were pepper and tomato plants.
Because they’re so similar, right?
Seeing as he’s in the business of pepper and tomato growing, we asked Double Diamond’s Jeremy Stockwell if the couple’s story even stood a chance.
After he was done laughing, “Besides the fact that these two were obviously dealing with people more professional than they were, no. Not a chance.”
And then there was the inevitable observation. “I mean, did they really try to pass off the same plant as tomatoes AND peppers?”
In the end it seems Uniontown officers agreed. Moore and Murray were both charged with possession and, most likely, wishing they hadn’t given the authorities permission to look in the trunk.
