Deardorff Family Farms is gearing up for what looks to be a very successful season on a recent addition to its portfolio, Tasti-Lee tomatoes. The company has increased its exclusive West Coast production of the proprietary variety and now offers 50 acres of organic and 110 acres of conventional. Tasti-Lees come in distinctive packaging with QR codes that helps to tell the unique story of the company. Deardorff is also introducing a new high lycopene logo/statement as well as the American heart association heart check logo. Vasken Khanjian, Business Development Director, tells AndNowUKnow, "After years of product development by the University of Florida, we are now offering a variety that has the great ability to maintain freshness and quality throughout the supply chain and offers a great homegrown flavor.”

Okanagan Specialty Fruits has a new innovation up its sleeve: Arctic apples. The variety has a non-browning trait that has been introduced to established cultivars like Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, and Gala. Arctic apples are currently awaiting regulatory approval, but by the Fall of 2014, a small amount should be available in select test markets. By 2015, modest volumes are expected. Arctic apples will debut with Arctic Golden and Arctic Granny cultivars. President, Neal Carter, tells AndNowUKnow, "Foodservice represents an enormous opportunity for non-browning apples as do traditional markets, as parents can leave cut Arctic apples out for hours without losing slices to browning."
