<p>Gourmet Trading Company is currently helping retailers expand their asparagus category. Just in time for the new year, the company is harvesting green, white and purple asparagus. Purple asparagus will only be available for a couple more weeks. Gourmet Trading Company is presenting a 1lb tri-color asparagus bag. The company also offers tri-color asparagus packs for foodservice.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Scott Hulsey, Vice President of Procurement, tells AndNowUKnow, "The majority of the volume is coming from Peru with additional asparagus coming from Mexico. Peru will continue until January. Mexico will end in December and starting in January, Caborca will begin and last into March."<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">"Prices for December have been stronger this year. While the demand for fresh asparagus has also increased," said Kristen Francisco, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>While there have been weather events, the company does not classify them as anything different than historical trends. The weather impact in the quality has been minimal with asparagus having an extremely good year from a quality prospective.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Hulsey notes, “Asparagus supplies have been fairly stable and similar in volumes from last year.
