CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Hy-Vee is making key structural changes as it leans further into its grocery operations with its latest transformation. With plans to expand into Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana, the grocer has announced a restructuring of its operations, relocating up to 500 office employees to retail stores across its eight-state network.
"According to company leaders, there are hundreds of retail management positions open across the company waiting to be filled," the company stated in an advertorial with the Des Moines Register. "Many of Hy-Vee's corporate employees started their career at the retail store and have the experience required to fill these positions."
These employees will be offered moving bonuses and other incentives to relocate to store locations that currently have open retail management positions. According to the source, 94 percent of Hy-Vee’s 93,000 employees are at the retail level.
"We currently have approximately 400 store leadership positions open across our eight-state region in addition to other full-time opportunities," Tina Potthoff, Senior Vice President of Communications, said in a statement emailed to the source. "Since we are in the midst of these changes, we don’t have specific details on any final numbers of corporate employees who are accepting positions at retail at this time. We should know more after the internal job fair this week."
The grocer currently occupies a 285-store network and is still planning a pivotal expansion to the Southeast. However, the company is no longer expecting to open 21 stores by 2025.
