PUTNAM COUNTY, IN - Marijuana amidst a bed of lettuce? Say it isn’t so! But that’s exactly what Indiana State Police troopers found in a tractor-trailer hauling a load of fresh lettuce from Colorado to Florida. According to a report from The Indy Channel, troopers seized 260 pounds of marijuana during a routine commercial vehicle inspection in Putnam County on the morning of August 8, 2018.

After stopping the tractor-trailer—which was traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 around 7:30 a.m.—a state trooper noticed several “criminal indicators” during the inspection process. While searching the trailer, the trooper found the 260 pounds of hydroponic marijuana concealed within a load of fresh lettuce.

The report noted that the street value of the marijuana found is estimated at around $1 million.

The driver and co-driver were both taken into custody, where both men were preliminarily charged with dealing marijuana. The incident, however, is still under investigation.
