<p>In this interview, Kenny Lund, Vice President of Support Operations at the Allen Lund Company, joins AndNowUKnow to give his perspective on the California Air Resource Board's new transportation regulations and what they mean for the industry.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">According to Kenny Lund, the California Air Resources Board is officially out of control. The regulations state that diesel engines that drive the refrigeration systems are only good for seven years at which point they have to be retrofitted or replaced. This option is difficult for the carrier that only has one or two trucks. These trucks are designed to last for fifteen years. These carriers will have a hard time affording to retrofit the trucks for $8,000 a piece let alone purchase trucks at a minimum of $20,000.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The regulations disproportionately affect smaller carriers by a large margin. A majority of the produce that is transported in the U.S. is transported by small carriers. Officially 70% of the trucks in California cannot be used to transport produce.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">
