LOS ANGELES, CA - In a partnership with City of Hope, The Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market (‘LA Market’) community is participating in a blood drive this Wednesday, October 14th.

The coordinator of the drive and founding owner/tenant in the market, Valley Fruit & Produce (‘Valley’), has a goal of 100 blood donations for the day. While this is Valley’s second consecutive year organizing this drive, this is their first time extending the invitation to their fellow market tenants, according to a press release.

Valley’s COO, Douglas La Londe, commented on the value he sees this event bringing, saying, “The blood drive is a great opportunity to come together as a market, as the produce industry, and to show unity as a community.”

With the help of its neighbors, Valley expects to easily exceed the 61 donors that participated last year, the company says. Carrie La Londe, Valley’s CFO, is also strongly behind the initiative.

“Our employees were so united in supporting the blood drive last year, that we thought it would be a great opportunity to expand the effort to a market-wide event,” Carrie said.

City of Hope concurred that it couldn’t be happier to be working with Valley again, with Donna Collins, Recruitment Coordinator, explaining, “Blood donations from the community are vital to the work City of Hope does every day. We are delighted to hold another blood drive with Valley, and the rest of the LA Market community.”
