KINGSVILLE, ON - If you thought the window on strategic developments had closed for 2024, think again. Innovation and expansion are still very much on the chess board for Mastronardi Produce®, which just revealed the acquisition of 91 acres of Canadian greenhouse capacity to add to its reach.
“This additional greenhouse acreage allows us to further our mission of delivering WOW flavor experiences with locally grown fruits and vegetables,” said Paul Mastronardi, President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are excited about these additional farms, as the increased acreage will play a vital role in supporting our continued growth in Canada and ensuring we meet the rising demand for SUNSET® branded produce.”
The addition consists of a newly constructed, state-of-the-art 27-acre glass greenhouse facility in Kingsville, Ontario, which will provide lit production in the winter of local SUNSET-branded produce, according to a press release. Completed in 2020, the new glass greenhouse facility utilizes advanced technology and lighting to optimize growing conditions, ensuring the high produce quality the greenhouse fresh brand is known for.
In addition to the greenhouse, Mastronardi Produce noted it will serve as the exclusive long-term marketer for two additional facilities: J.C. Fresh Farms Ltd., with 32 acres in Kingsville, and Orangeline Farms Limited, with 32 acres in Leamington, Ontario. This collaboration secures a total of 91 acres of Canadian greenhouse production capacity.
The news comes on the heels of four new SKUs being added to the company’s berry lineup—the SUNSET Summer Series Berries® debuted a range of high-flavor options just weeks ago at the 2024 International Fresh Produce Association’s Global Produce & Floral Show.
As it continues to meet growing demand for its innovative offerings, the Mastronardi Produce team emphasized that ensuring its products maintain exceptional flavor is paramount. As we continue to follow those moves and more, keep a tab open for AndNowUKnow.
