As the season continues, Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers is relishing in the holiday spirit with booming sales for its apples and a record sales pace for its 2013 pear crop.

“It has been excellent despite the large apple holdings in the East,” said Scott Marboe, Marketing Director. He noted that apple demand has been particularly good for Red Delicious, Honeycrisp, and Gala varieties, according to a press release.

Dan Wohlford, national marketing representative for Oneonta, agreed, saying that the company is very pleased with the harvest and that both apples and pears look excellent, with huge volumes and sizing for pears. He added that the company will be heading into 2014 with good supplies and anticipates near normal volumes throughout the rest of winter and spring. He anticipates opening controlled atmosphere rooms in January, with a smooth transition to CA and consistent crop quality.

Oneonta’s festive-colored Green and Red D’Anjous are perfect for promotional opportunities as well. Wohlford added that “large size Bosc also offer very promotable prices and quantities, so retailers can promote two or more varieties to meet consumers’ desires.”

The company is also excited about its expanded facility at Columbia Reach in the Yakima area. “One of the really exciting things is the state-of-the-art packing line that features sophisticated optics for faster and more accurate color and grade defect detection,” continued Wohlford. “That allows us to increase our packing capacity while being more precise on color and quality requirements.”

Congrats on your continuing success, Oneonta!

Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers
