Spring is coming and so are Pure Flavor’s new crops out of Canada. Although the weather this early spring has been extremely cold, crops of baby eggplants, sweet bell peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers have all been staying warm, growing, and are now ready for harvest. Sarah Pau, Marketing Assistant, tells AndNowUKnow, “Look for some of these great products to add some flare to your store shelves, like baby graffiti eggplants, Aurora Sweets™ peppers, and their ever so sweet Bumble™ yellow grape tomatoes.”

Wilcox Fresh is continuing to improve supply chain efficiency for its retail and foodservice customers. This May, the company will be celebrating its 2nd anniversary at its Northeast Distribution Services facility in Portland, Maine. Rail cars full of Idaho potatoes, including Russets, as well as reds, yellows, and whites are brought into the facility so they can be packed and shipped to customers in the Northeast. With the local packing facility, NEDS can be responsive to customer needs the same day. Products can be shipped up to a 6 hour radius from Portland, Maine. The NEDS operation also specializes in product re-works and handles a wide range of locally grown products in season. CEO, Jim Richter, tells AndNowUKnow, “Our Portland, Maine facility allows customers to lower their inventory holding costs, get more frequency of delivery, increase turns, and receive a higher level of overall service. We use regional and local potatoes from our grower partners, including those from Idaho, Maine, the Midwest, and elsewhere in the Northeast.”
