Sunkist Growers has just wrapped up a strong Moro orange season in California but more specialties are on the way as Pixie tangerines are just around the corner. With packing beginning in mid-March, it’s sure to be a long and fruitful citrus season. In addition, the company is still in the midst of its Navel, Organic Navel and Cara Cara program with great demand and promotable volumes. Joan Wickham, Advertising & PR Manager, tells AndNowUKnow, "Lemon demand has also been very strong this year, aided by the Biggest Loser retail promotion that is underway. We are also promoting "Fish Fridays" at retail this month, encouraging consumers to pair Sunkist lemons with their seafood." California Rio Red grapefruit, also part of the Biggest Loser retail promotion, are in season and have great color and flavor.

Central American Produce is finishing up its mango crop out of Peru and is now starting in Nicaragua. The company anticipates seeing more volumes of mangos from Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Mexico by the second week of March, including Tommy Atkins and the increasingly popular Ataulfo varieties. There was plenty of dry weather this season, so expect to see great quality mangos coming this March. Sabine Henry, Tropical Sales, tells AndNowUKnow, “We’ve seen great demand this season for our mangos, especially Tommys. We expect to see retailers push mangos because of the increased demand this March as we start seeing normal arrivals.”
