Sunkist Growers has begun shipping its Star Ruby grapefruit with fruit offering exceptional taste and great color. The company is continuing its marketing program to promote grapefruit to millennials with its “Not Your Mother’s Grapefruit” campaign. The program aims to reignite the fruit’s popularity by educating consumers about modern uses for this delicious, nutrient-rich super food. Joan Wickham, Advertising & PR Manager, tells AndNowUKnow, “With its many weight loss benefits, grapefruit is also part of Sunkist’s 'The Biggest Loser' promotion. Through an off-air licensing agreement with the popular reality show, specially-marked Kwik Locks on Star Ruby packaging encourages consumers to enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win one of two trips to the Biggest Loser Resort.”

Procacci and Santa Sweets is increasing production on its grape tomatoes and proprietary UglyRipe® Heirloom Tomatoes in order to meet the growing demand. The company harvests from 6 different areas from Florida to Sonora, Mexico and New Jersey to bring retailers a year-round availability of the items. In addition, Procacci is gearing up to kick off its Santa Sweet tomato plant program, back by popular demand. Kevin Delaney, Director of Marketing, tells us, “With increased interaction from our customers and consumers on the growing popularity of these plants, we are looking to possibly bring on a year-round program. The cross promotional opportunities with our tomatoes, and POS for the plants themselves, have been a great success in produce departments.”
