YAKIMA, WA - It may only be the start of January, but Superfresh Growers® already has its sights set on next month as it has released its exciting new Mardi Gras™ pear variety. Available in February, the juicy, sweet pear will be ready to hit shelves just in time for Fat Tuesday celebrations, giving buyers and shoppers something to look forward to.
“The Mardi Gras holiday is a time for celebrating good food, good people, and good music. It is a time to celebrate the joy of living. We are excited to release this new pear that Celebrates the Sweetness™ of life with its amazing taste and texture,” said Cat Gipe-Stewart, Director of Marketing.
Superfresh’s Mardi Gras pear will surely grab consumer attention in the produce aisles with its elongated bottle shape and natural russet over a green background, a release described. The variety features a sweet, buttery flavor and juiciness that will melt in your mouth when at peak ripeness.
Mardi Gras is a medium-sized winter pear deriving from Europe’s favorite Conference pear.
Upon release, Superfresh will have a limited supply for the first year, starting sales in February and likely selling into April. The initial 2023 launch will offer 2 lb pouch bags to entice shoppers. The grower also encourages retailers to display the variety as a premium item to garner further interest.
To help its retail partners merchandise Mardi Gras pears, Superfresh has created a color-your-own mask for kids of all ages as well as a craft sheet that is available on the company’s website.
“We are so excited to offer new flavors to our pear offerings. The logo was too fun and festive not to create our own mask to help us celebrate this release,” added Gipe-Stewart.
