SALINAS, CA - Celery prices were mixed this week, with the Salinas-Watsonville region posting modest gains as fairly light supplies supported the market, while Santa Maria and California's organic market remained steady.
According to the USDA's National FOB Review for July 22, supplies in Salinas-Watsonville were fairly light, and demand remained moderate, pushing the market slightly higher. Conventional celery cartons were mostly quoted at $23.75 to $26.75 across 2-dozen, 2½-dozen and 3-dozen packs, with occasional higher prices reported.
Santa Maria's market was about steady on moderate demand and generally good quality. Conventional 2-dozen and 2½-dozen cartons were mostly $18.55 to $20.35, although prices ranged from $14.55 to $22.35 depending on quality and condition.
California's South and Central District organic market also held about steady. Organic 2-dozen and 2½-dozen cartons were mostly $33 to $36, within an overall range of $28 to $38.
