UNITED STATES & MEXICO - According to multiple recent reports from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the East Coast is currently seeing a light to steady supply of asparagus, resulting in slightly higher pricing across the category.

A majority of asparagus volume is coming in from Mexico, supported by production in Peru. On the East Coast, volume is currently ranging from light to steady as supplies from Mexico see the impacts of heavy rains and winds in Caborca. As a March 26 report from PRO*ACT’s The Source noted, this has led to reduced yields, decreased volumes, and a more active market.

Lighter supply in Caborca and Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, and Peru have led to higher pricing for the category.

Reporting a light supply, the New York Terminal Market quoted 11 lb cartons of bunched Mexico green jumbo asparagus at 28-30 and 28 lb bunched Mexico green large asparagus at 52-55. On April 1, the Boston Terminal Market reported steady supply, with 11 lb cartons of bunched green asparagus from Mexico ranging from 34-42 and 28 lbs of bunched Green large Mexican asparagus from 56-61.

ANUK will continue to monitor the latest market conditions in this category and beyond.
