Winter Storm Blasts the East Coast with Heavy Snow Causing Issues for Wholesalers

<p>With another major snow storm hitting the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, wholesalers are doing their best to prepare for the challenges of late, and the ones that lie ahead. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Tom Kovacevich, General Manager of TMK Produce tells AndNowUKnow, that the company was happy to report that all its deliveries were made yesterday and all drivers made it home safe as of Tuesday, but wholesalers are still expecting that the weather will cause delays and obvious challenges with road closures and cold temperatures.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> “We, like several others here at the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market were open last night with light crews, servicing a limited customer base that came to the market despite the weather,” Kovacevich, tells us.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>TMK is scheduling deliveries today but with the weather limitations, the company will do the best it can considering the road conditions.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Kovacevich, notes, “Overall I'd say most of our customers prepared for this storm by buying heavy Sunday and Monday, thus avoiding the need to get product Tuesday and Wednesday. For the few still coming we will be here!”</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Yesterday afternoon in Philadelphia, a half hour trip under normal conditions took from 3 to 4 hours, wholesalers told us.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>John Vena, Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market Board Treasurer and President of John Vena Inc., told AndNowUKnow, “Officially our Market remained open overnight on Tuesday, however several of us have elected to close until Wednesday morning. Road conditions in the Philadelphia area were extremely poor Tuesday evening and traffic was jammed up everywhere.
