PELION, SC - While the produce industry gives back year-round, December is a special month for spreading love and honoring those in our community who have made a lasting impact. In tribute to some of these heroes, WP Rawl supported Wreaths Across America Day, which honors fallen United States veterans, active-duty military, and their families.
"It is a great honor and privilege to be part of such a great event honoring our military and our country,” said Frankie O'Neal, the WP Rawl Driver who has led the company's Wreaths Across America involvement for the past few years.
This annual event furthers WP Rawl’s yearlong mission to Remember, Honor, Teach, ensuring that the memories of those who have served the country continue on, a release stated.
Wreath-laying ceremonies took place in 4,225 locations in all 50 states, at sea, and abroad. During the ceremonies, volunteers or loved ones laid evergreen wreaths on the headstones of each veteran, a symbol used for centuries to recognize and honor those who were lost.
WP Rawl has supported Wreaths Across America throughout the years by donating services along with sponsoring wreaths. In 2016, the company increased its support as it began donating resources such as trucks, trailers, fuel, and drivers to pick up loads of hand-made wreaths in Columbia Falls, Maine, to participate in the Honor Fleet, which is responsible for transporting millions of veterans' wreaths to a growing number of participating locations worldwide.
For the seventh holiday season, three of WP Rawl’s 53-foot reefer trailers traveled the nation’s highways carrying thousands of wreaths back to Fort Jackson and Beaufort National Cemeteries in South Carolina. Company drivers and team members participated in parades and ceremonies at both locations.
