Design-Build Firm A M King Announces New South Texas Cold Storage Facility For Mexican-Based Produce Operations
LAREDO, TX - The produce industry is always booming with growth, and today is no different, as Design-Build firm A M King recently announced it began construction on a new cold storage facility for Mexico-based GAB Operations in south Texas.
“We’re happy to be working with another prominent produce company in Laredo,” said Dan Crist, A M King Vice President. “Our food industry expertise, coupled with our track record of successfully completed cold storage and distribution facilities, places us in a great position to design and build this project and serve as a resource for a new international client.”
The new, 45,590-square-foot facility is scheduled to be completed in October and will provide increased cold storage capacity for fresh produce and serve as a hub for the company’s U.S. and Canadian customers, according to a press release.
GAB’s new Laredo distribution center will include 7,717 square feet of refrigerated spaces ranging from 34–45 degrees; a 13,030-square-foot -10 degree freezer; 2,502 square feet of 75 degree dry storage; 10 dock positions; and a 4,570-square-foot office space. A M King has also incorporated a forced-air cooler that brings the temperature of the produce down quickly and safely, as well as different vertical leveler lengths to offer cargo flexibility.
“The GAB project will not only house the cold storage warehouse and offices of the GAB Laredo distribution center, but will also feature a trucker dormitory where our fleet drivers may rest before continuing their route,” said GAB President Jaime Usabiaga.
During the design phase of this ambitious project, A M King collaborated with GAB to ensure that the layout and design of the new space met both the supplier’s current and future needs.
“We always strive to exceed our customers' expectations, and this is why we decided to partner with the Design-Build professionals at A M King. We are looking forward to a successful project completion,” GAB Vice President Miguel Usabiaga said.
A M King is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, with offices in Greenville, South Carolina, and Chicago, Illinois. The employee-owned company consistently and successfully delivers quality projects throughout the United States, the press release went on to note. With an experienced team committed to protecting clients’ assets, the firm provides property consulting, design and engineering, construction, and facility services in key market sectors including food processing, food distribution, industrial manufacturing, and commercial properties.
