HOUSTON, TX - With its central mission to deliver fresh fruits and vegetables as well as nutrition education to as many families as possible, Brighter Bites is taking another step toward achieving its goals as it has partnered with DoorDash. Through the foodservice ally’s Project DASH initiative, the nonprofit will increase fresh produce accessibility in New York, New York; Houston, Texas; and Washington, DC.

Rich Dachman, Chief Executive Officer, Brighter Bites“Leveraging logistics that DoorDash has to offer has been a game changer in our work. There is a barrier for families who rely on alternative ways to get to and from school that can hinder their ability to take the fresh produce boxes home,” said Rich Dachman, Chief Executive Officer of Brighter Bites. “DoorDash’s capability to pick up and drop off the produce boxes directly to families’ doorsteps is monumental. We are thrilled to partner with DoorDash’s Project DASH initiative to better serve our communities!”

This partnership with DoorDash’s Project DASH enables families facing transportation hurdles to still be able to participate in the Brighter Bites program, a release explained. Now, DoorDash drivers will go to select enrolled schools, gather the produce boxes, and deliver them right to families’ doorsteps.

To date, Project DASH has powered over 1.8 million deliveries of more than 33 million meals across the United States and Canada. Using the same technology available to DoorDash merchants, Brighter Bites will be able to reach families in an innovative way, providing fresh produce to those in need.

Brittany Graunke, Director, Drive, DoorDash“We are honored to partner with Brighter Bites to broaden food access by delivering fresh food to families in New York City; Washington, DC; and Houston,” said Brittany Graunke, DoorDash Drive Director. “Local delivery has been critical in supporting food banks and other social impact organizations’ provision of food and other essentials while emphasizing convenience and dignity. We’re excited to continue growing this work in a sustainable way for our partners across the country to continue to meet the ongoing need.”

Currently, DoorDash is being used at select schools in three of the nine cities in which Brighter Bites has programs established, including New York City; Washington, DC; and Houston. Moving forward, the organization is looking to extend the partnership to the remaining six cities this fall.

As Brighter Bites continues to introduce unique ways to get fresh produce into the hands of those in need, AndNowUKnow is happy to share the latest updates.
