California Avocado Commission Launches New Snacking Campaign

<p>California Avocado Commission is launching a <B>new snacking campaign</b> featuring dozens of exciting avocado snack ideas. The campaign extends across retail programs, public relations, social media, email, and online communications, such as the company’s <I>The Scoop</i> blog, according to a press release.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><img src="https://cdn.andnowuknow.com/legacyWriterImages/body.jpg" alt="cropped_Image_042414" /><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> “It’s time to bring more snacking opportunities to the produce department,” said Jan DeLyser, Vice President of Marketing. “The California Avocado Commission is going after nutritious snacking in a big way, with ideas ranging from <B>guacamole and veggie dippers</b> to <B>crackers and avocados</b>, to <B>quick-bite tapas</b>, <B>smoothies</b>, and more. We think our initiative ties-in nicely with other fresh efforts currently underway to shift snacking from center store to produce.”<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> In April, the company provided consumers with four easy and delicious <B>“100-calorie snack”</b> recipes created by registered dietitian Katie Ferraro, including <I>California Avocado Cucumber Cups</i> and <I>Power Hour Pick-Me-Up Smoothies</i>. Meanwhile, retailers featured a recipe brochure, “California Fresh Snacking,” on various California avocado in-store displays. The brochure provides consumers <B>twelve, produce-rich California avocado snacking recipes</b>, as well as preparation and handling tips, nutrition information, and messaging to encourage consumers to choose California avocados as a healthy meal and snack option throughout the day.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Co-marketing partners, such as <B>Gourmet Garden™ Herbs and Spices</b> and <B>Naturipe®</b> are also promoting snacking ideas, such as <I>California Avocado Cracker Snacks</i> and <I>Summer Stuffed Avocados</i>, respectively.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> DeLyser notes that 49% of avocado consumers purchase avocados for snacking, compared to 55% and 66% respectively for lunch and dinner usage.
