<p> Peruvian table grapes were a big hit this year, as exports of the fruit reached 177,000 tons during the 2013/2014 season, a 15% increase over the 153,950 tons that were shipped last year.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Sandro Farfán Padilla, CEO of the Association of Table Grape Growers, indicated that Provid, which groups together 62 agricultural exporting companies, sent 90% of the previous year’s total volume and is expected to maintain the same amount in this year’s campaign, according to Agraria. Padilla noted that the highest volumes of shipments were recorded during mid-November to mid-January, and that he expects weeks 47 – 52 of 2013 and weeks 1 – 3 of 2014 to be the highest peaks for exported table grapes.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> The grapes highest in demand during this campaign were Redglobes, of which approximately 120,253 kilos (78% of the total) were exported last year, followed by Sugraone Seedless (10,874 kilos last year), Flame Seedless (9,294 kilos), Crimson Seedless (6,893 kilos), Thompson Seedless (3,360 kilos), White Seedless (1,105 kilos), and Autumn Royal (785 kilos), among others.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Provid’s CEO said that they have been working for four years to enter the Japanese market with Peruvian grapes. He expects 2013 to be the last year of testing and he hopes they will be able to ship significant amounts of grapes for the 2014/2015 campaign.
