<p>Giumarra Wenatchee is bringing a new pear to market. The company will become the exclusive North American supplier for the Angélys pear, a variety grown by Freshmax in New Zealand, according to a press release.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><img src="https://cdn.andnowuknow.com/legacyWriterImages/giumarra052113ban.jpg" alt="Cropped Images May 21st, 2013" /><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The pear offers a sweet, bold flavor profile with a smooth, bronze skin that has a unique pink blush and delicious aroma. The pear also has exceptional shelf life and storability. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>“This is the first time this variety will be available in the U.S. market,” says Mr. Jason Bushong, Division Manager for Giumarra Wenatchee. “We think there is great potential growth with Angélys because of its unique characteristics and superb flavor. The program will offer trial volumes from June through August for the current year.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>“Summer will provide a great opportunity to merchandise the pear in unique ways, either by itself or as part of a larger summer fruit display featuring multiple items,” says Mr. Scott Ross, Eastern Region Business Manager for the Giumarra Companies. “Educating consumers on its key attributes generates interest and leads to repeat purchases.”</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Originally bred in France the Angélys is grown in the Nelson region of New Zealand.
