GLENNVILLE, GA - G&R Farms is ensuring that the field’s rocketing potential of this year’s Vidalia® crop is maximized in the store. Launching the season with an upcoming Earth Day promotion, the team wants to make sure sweet onions and sustainability are practically synonymous.

Walt Dasher, Vice President, G&R Farms“As the largest civic observance in the world, more than a billion people celebrate Earth Day each year. This year, it also happens to coincide around the same time as the Vidalia onion season launch on April 21, 2021,” Walt Dasher, Vice President of G&R Farms, tells me. “Because we believe in the importance of sustainability and have dedicated our resources to protecting the environment, we wanted to take a stand on Earth Day by launching a two-week promotion to educate shoppers both in-store and online.”

He continues, “We’ll be giving away eco-friendly prizes, partnering with bloggers focused on sustainability, offering new secondary merchandising display options, and conducting social media activities.”

G&R Farms will be diving into a number of eco-powered initiatives and expanding its annual Growing America’s Farmers promotion, now entering its sixth year.

In addition to possible cross-promotional opportunities with other produce department or store-requested brands and products, the company’s additions will include:

  • Coordination with retail communication teams
  • A charitable scholarship donation in the retailer’s name
  • In-store displays and POS materials
  • Online digital marketing (including geotargeting and social)
  • Co-marketing and coordination with local, state, and national FFA programs
  • Consumer PR (including in-market media)

The 2021 sponsorship program kicks off in March for National Agriculture Month and will run for 12-plus weeks.

“The average age of farmers has been on the rise for the past 30 years increasing to 58 years old. America’s farms are facing challenges that will require young talent to carry the torch. That’s why I’m passionate about raising funds to provide FFA scholarships for the next generation of farmers,” said Walt.

The company is currently in the Peruvian sweet onion season and preparing for the upcoming Vidalia onion season, with demand trending up for a strong reception once product hits the shelves.

While it may still be February, spring has more than sprung for G&R Farms and its partners. As we continue to follow not just produce markets but the strategies utilizing them, continue to check in with AndNowUKnow.
